Round 5 Updates
First up - thanks for involving users to test the weekly updates. It is a brilliant idea. I learnt a lot about the tool during the testing process.
Test environment#
- OS - ubuntu 20.04
- Firefox - 117.0 64 bits
- Test date - Sat Sep 2
- Location - California
Features tested#
Following features were tested as part of round 5 updates.
Bookmarks:#
It works - kinda!
I could bookmark two articles but as a first time user, the click on the bookmark button didn't leave any feedback. I kept clicking on it few times before it occurred to me that I might be repeating the drill. Then I checked my bookmarks (all the way under profile) to see that I bookmarked the same article twice.
As far as the clicking is concerned - it is probably a matter of getting used to but I would sure prefer my bookmarks on the "homepage" rather than being buried deep into my profile ( three additional clicks).
Comments replies threads:#
I love the idea that the comments are on the right hand side rather than at the bottom of a long post. The side panel allows to comment on the long posts as you are reading them instead of scrolling all the way to the bottom and lose the place of our reading.
And now I can see how many replies are there for each comment. When I click on the comment to see the replies, a new thread is opened which is pretty awesome. Each comment is kinda it's own thread keeping the main post clutter-free.
Only issue is when I replied to a comment, the page didn't refresh automatically. It was kinda hanging in there. Could be a Firefox issue!
Sensitive content:#
I like the ability to tag the content as sensitive but why is this option at the end of the flow - I mean, as a writer, I should be able to flag an article sensitive at any time during my writing process. This should be a toggle just like any other formatting options in the editor.
Are there any platform guidelines for sensitivity. I know it is a very broad topic but giving a few tips to the writers is not a bad idea.
Reports counter:#
Since I didn't want to click on "report" button on any live article, I created a new article and later deleted it.
I could see the number of the "reports" counter and also a choice panel for the reason of the report. Pretty neat.
May be these choices - the options of reports - could be shown to the writers when they mark their content sensitive! - the idea is to let them know that readers may report the content on following lines.
Images upload:#
Didn't work - I tried to upload a larger image first. It responded with the dialog to restrict the size to 1 mb. Then I tried 500 kb images but it kept on throwing the same message.
On the other hand I could upload a non image file (a markdown file) that got saved to to Amazon storage and I could download the file . May be I am confused as to which UI button to click for image upload.
Uploads history:#
This is a very good feature. I could see the uploads history but no information was visible in the boxes on the right hand side - could be because all my uploads failed.
Search#
Works well.
