Proof of Work, Not Proof of Identity

Bitcoin mining is more than just an income stream. It's a way to produce Bitcoin without a name ever being attached to where it came from. This piece breaks down what mining actually is, how hash rate and mining pools work, and why non-KYC Bitcoin matters if privacy is something you value in how you acquire and hold your coins.

To me, Bitcoin mining is the ability to produce non-KYC Bitcoin at a cheaper cost than buying spot Bitcoin.

Spot Bitcoin is simply the current market price. Right now, that price sits around $63,000 per Bitcoin.

Mining works by running hash rate through a mining pool. That pool generates newly mined Bitcoin, and those coins get paid out straight to your wallet, no name attached.

That's where non-KYC comes in. KYC stands for know your customer, and it's what crypto exchanges use to collect your personal information before you can buy or sell. A Bitcoin miner doesn't know anything about you. You buy the machine, it starts hashing into a pool, and the pool sends newly generated Bitcoin to your wallet. No identity tied to it at any point.

That matters to me because it means I can own Bitcoin without the government or anyone else knowing who it belongs to. Taxes are a different story, they may know I have mining income, but the coins themselves never had a name attached at the source. If someone finds my hardware wallet, or if I send Bitcoin to someone else, there's no identity baked into that coin's origin.

To be clear, that doesn't mean the coins are invisible. Bitcoin's blockchain is public, every transaction is traceable forever. What non-KYC actually means is that no identity is attached to the source. The privacy is in the missing identity link, not in the transaction disappearing.

If you want true privacy in how you acquire Bitcoin, mining is the best route. Owning a miner and producing your own income this way is, in my opinion, the strongest option out there for anyone who wants to hold and send Bitcoin without a name attached to it from the start.
