Billions of dollars have poured into Ukraine since the war began. Where does it actually go?

That’s the question at the center of a striking conversation with Ralph Bosshard — a former OSCE observer and Lieutenant Colonel in the Swiss Army — whose account of the war diverges sharply from the version most of us have been given.

Bosshard doesn’t deal in vague suspicion. He talks specifics: seized fortunes and gold shipments moving through Hungary. A drug cartel operating under the name “Himprom.” Money laundering routed through cryptocurrency and offshore shell structures. And a question that cuts to the heart of Western military aid — how much of the weaponry sent to the front line actually arrives there?

His answer is unsettling: a substantial share, he argues, may be disappearing into channels that have nothing to do with the battlefield.

The uncomfortable part isn’t just the money. It’s who’s allegedly moving it. Bosshard describes a web connecting intelligence services, oligarchs, and organized crime networks — and warns that the consequences aren’t staying contained inside Ukraine’s borders. Corruption and organized crime, he argues, are no longer a problem that can be filed away as a distant, Eastern European issue. They’re beginning to reach into Western institutions themselves.

As Bosshard puts it:

“We’re all being turned into mafia states somehow, if we don’t fight organized crime.”

Whether or not you agree with his conclusions, this is testimony worth sitting with. Bosshard isn’t a fringe commentator — he spent years as a military officer and OSCE observer, watching this conflict from the inside. That perspective alone earns him a hearing, even where his claims are hard to verify and harder to accept.
